LASGIDI COOK 4

This oil-based pasta sauce is sweet and salty from the raisins and olive tapenade, and contains everything from onions and garlic to nuts and a big handful of parsley. I think I once had something similar at a fancy restaurant. Plus, it’s an easy dish to make for potluck dinners.

  • For one bag of pasta (about 6-8 servings):
  • 500 g bag of pasta (spirals are good)
  • 2 purple onions, chopped
  • 6-8 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 6 T tomato paste
  • 2 T black olive tapenade(puréed or finely chopped olives, capers, anchovies and olive oil).
  • 1/4-1/2 c olive oil
  • 3/4 c chopped parsley
  • 1/2 c pine nuts
  • 1/2 c almonds
  • 1 c white raisins, chopped
  • salt
  • pepper

Prepare the pasta according to the instructions on the package.

Meanwhile, start frying the chopped onions in the olive oil (you can do this in the pot in which you cooked the pasta, in order to cut down on dishes). Once they become translucent, add the garlic as well as the raisins, and let fry another minute.

Mix in the tomato paste and the olive tapenade (you could also just add extra salt in place of the olives, and add some chopped olives at the end instead), and turn off the flame.

In a small frying pan, toast the nuts and the almonds over a medium flame, watching intently and stirring frequently so that they don’t burn — the pine nuts should “sweat,” while both nuts will turn a light brown. Don’t let them blacken — burnt nuts are no fun.

Mix the pasta into the onion-tomato mix, and add the parsley and the toasted nuts.

Personally
Ill per boil the pasta and then heat the oil, fry the onions and garlic for some mins, include the tomato paste, add seasoning, the raisins and nuts and olive tapenade and allow to simmer. Drain the pasta and include in the sauce pot and allow to cook.

GBAM its done.

JONATHAN VISTS THE CRASH SITE

President Goodluck Jonathan, today visited the location of the Dana air plane crash. He was moved to tears and promised to launch a probe.

The President said he will make sure this incident does not repeat itself.

This is the first time he has made an emotional appearance and he was almost on time too. He should do this more often.

PLANE CRASH IN LAGOS

A plane owned by Dana airlines crashed into Iju- Agege residential area of Lagos, setting ablaze some of the buildings around it.  The plane was flown from Abuja carrying about 153 passengers on board.

As at now the aviation officials are yet to ascertain the number of causalities and survivors. I wonder what our emergency officials are doing.

Let's not forget Saturday’s incident in Ghana when a cargo plane crash-landed in the capital Accra, hitting a bus full of passengers and killing ten of them.  Also the Bauchi church bombing... Its worrying.

BREAKING NEWS

PLANE CRASH: TEN DEAD IN GHANA

The Boeing 727 had flown in from Lagos, Nigeria when it smashed the runway barriers at Accra's Kotoka International airport.

The cargo plane went off the runway, broke the barriers and ran into a minivan on the road. Ten people were crushed to death. The injured four-man aircrew jumped to safety and were rushed to hospital.

Ghana's vice president John Dramani Mahama ordered aviation officials to launch an investigation.

This is really sad.

UNILAG STUDENTS PROTEST NAME CHANGE

As part of the celebations of Democracy day, on the 29th of May, 2012, President Goodluck Jonathan announced the University of Lagos will now be recognised as Mashood Abiola University. I was near by when the angry students took to the street to protest against the sudden name change. They mounted road blocks, causing vehicles to divert towards other routes. On Wednesday they took to the third mainland bridge and held commuters to a standstill for several hours before the appropriate officials got involved and diverted traffic towards other routes. The protest has been on for about 3days. Presently the school has shut-down activities for two weeks in a bid to contain the situation.
The timing and manner in which Jona acted caused an uproar. The Senate was not contacted nor aware of the name change. The University just lost it's VC and had activites scheduled this week for his burial(Tuesday- Thursday). We have lots of major pressing issues but his focus is else where obviously. I sympathize with the students and as an alumni of UNILAG now MAUL, I'm certainly not amused. No thanks to Jona.

For some reason i didn't get her picture but she was certainly EYE CANDY.

Everyone brought a little sumthin sumthin and YIPEE we had loads of stuff. We had beef kebabs, pork chops, chicken, pasta salad and loads of drinks.

I really wish you were there.

MARK ZUCKBERG GETS HITCHED

On Saturday, May, 19, 2012, Zuckerberg and Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, Calif home. Zuckerberg wed 27-year-old Priscilla Chan, his girlfriend of nearly a decade. The ceremony was held in front of fewer than 100 stunned guests who thought they would be attending a party to celebrate Chan's graduation from medical school.

On Monday, Zuckerberg turned 28 and Chan graduated from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, where she'd studied pediatrics.
Then on Friday, Zuckerberg took his blue-and-white web behemoth public in one of the most anticipated stock offerings in Wall Street history.

The wedding had been planned for months and the couple was waiting for Chan to finish medical school, but the date of the IPO was a "moving target" not known when the wedding was set.

Attendees, including Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, were told after they arrived that they were not mere party guests but wedding guests.

Zuckerberg sported a dark blue suit and tie with a white shirt for the ceremony, while Chan wore a traditional white wedding dress with veil and lace.
Food was served family-style and included dishes from the couple's favorite Palo Alto sushi restaurant.

Zuckerberg met Chan at Harvard, where he founded Facebook in a dorm room in 2004, and have been together for more than nine years.
Chan's own Facebook page, which now lists her as married to the founder, said she is a native of Braintree, Mass., and attended high school in nearby Quincy.
She graduated Harvard in 2007 then taught science to fourth and fifth graders at the Harker School in San Jose for two years before starting medical school, according to her profile.

DONNA SUMMERS DIES AT 63

Summer, real name LaDonna Adrian Gaines, was born in 1948 in Boston. She was raised on gospel music and became the soloist in her church choir by age 10.
Love to Love You Baby was her U.S. chart debut and the first of 19 No. 1 dance hits between 1975 and 2008 - second only to Madonna.
During the disco era she burned up the charts: She was the only artist to have three consecutive double-LPs hit No. 1, Live and More, `Bad Girls and On the Radio.
She was never comfortable with the 'Disco Queen' label. Musically, she began to change in 1979 with Hot Stuff, which had a tough, rock `n' roll beat.

Her diverse sound helped her earn Grammy Awards in the dance, rock, R&B and inspirational categories.
Dionne Warwick said in a statement that she was sad to lose a great performer and 'dear friend'.
'My heart goes out to her husband and her children,' Warwick said. 'Prayers will be said to keep them strong.'
Summer released her last album, Crayons, in 2008. It was her first full studio album in 17 years. She also performed on American Idol that year with its top female contestants.

She had one of her biggest hits in the 1980s with She Works Hard For The Money, which became another anthem, this time for women's rights.

Support Locally Made Products- Labaran Maku

The President has encouraged Nigerians to stock MADE in Nigeria products to support our
country's growth and development.

The minister of Information Labaran Maku said; if you go to the President’s house today,
he eats rice produced in Ebonyi State…Ofada Rice; the imported rice is not eaten in the
Presidential Villa…also there, he eats Cassava Bread that has just been introduced,
which is saving Nigeria almost N300 billion in imports.”
The minister urged Nigerians to “patronise the things that are researched and produced here,
the country will develop.”
He emphasized, Nigeria would grow and develop only when Nigerians begin to patronise
locally made goods.
The minister  commended the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology for its
research-based development efforts, adding that new Science, Technology and
Innovation Policy was required to promote national development.
The minister said  “We never can develop as a nation until we pay attention
to science and technology; the difference between America, Europe,
Asia and us is the emphasis on science and technology and human capital development…
I want to assure you from what you have seen that intellectual property, creativity,
is what we need to advance the development of our country.”
Nigeria has a large market, which has always attracted investors. He urges Nigerians
to play significant roles in meeting the needs of the market.

Products like  Zobo, Vitamilk, Coco drinks, Conflakes,Ankara prints, shoes and bags
to mention but a few are doing wonderfully well.

Personally i'm into the Ankara prints and afro-centric homes. Oh did i mention hair do's.....
